The Climate

The overall climate in England is called temperate maritime. This means that it is mild with temperatures not much lower than 0ºC in winter and not much higher than 32ºC in summer. It also means that it is damp and is subject to frequent changes.

Best time to visit :

The summer months are when mosts Brits take their holidays, with schools breaking up for the whole of August. The summer months have the best weather but crowds at tourist attractions tend to peak around June-September.

•From March until May spring will have arrived, there is a good chance of fine weather. Some tourist attraction don't open until Easter weekend.

•June through to September is the peak summer period. Gardens will be in full bloom, the evenings long and the warm days just right for wandering around.

•October and November are the months when autumn sets in. The leaves on the trees change to all shades of brown and orange.

•December through to February is the winter period.

The English gastronomical tradition has always been ridiculed for their European neighbours, but it is possible to find many and varied meals in the different regions that go beyond the fish and chips. That is the case of the Lincolnshire’s sausages and Cornualles’s pasty , stuffed with meat and potatoes. In Melton Mowbray it is recommended to taste the pig meat pies, as well as Yorkshire’s roast beef and pudding. Cornualles has the best seafood, and the most famous cheeses are processed in Silton.

Many of the world's famous sports began in Britain, including cricket, football, lawn tennis, golf, polo, table tennis, badminton, boat race, bowls  and rugby. England's national sport is cricket although to many people football (soccer) is seen as our national sport. Football is our most popular sport. Some of England's football teams are world famous, the most famous being Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The United Kingdom has one of the world's largest music industries today, with many British musicians having had an impact on modern music.

Tourist Atractions in England

Tourism is one of the largest industries in the UK — worth approximately $127.9 billion. It employs more than 1.5 million people (7 percent of all employment) in hotels, restaurants, pubs, travel agencies, museums etc.

Mass tourism in England began in the second half of the nineteenth century, during the Victorian period. Seaside holidays were particularly popular.

About twenty-five million people now visit England every year. They come from all over the world. Nearly all of them start in London, and some never go out of that great city.

People visit England for many reasons. Some return to discover their family roots having originated from here. Others come to see the wide variety of historical buildings or to sample the heritage and traditions that we have so much of.

England has much to offer, wonderful and very different countryside from region to region and also a wide variety of culture. It is also often used as a stepping stone to the rest of Europe as we are so close and travel is easy.

There are the beautiful university cities of Oxford and Cambridge, the wonderful Dorset coast, and the Lake District, Stonehenge and Windsor Castle.
